SEJOUR A LA CARTE

Day 1 – stage 1

Quebra Mar > Lagoinha

> Paracuru

Departure of the Downwind on the big beach of Paracuru, Quebra Mar in direction of Lagoinha. This stage represents between 30 and 60 km of navigation (the mileage is estimated because we will not realize straight lines according to the strength of the wind and the level of practice of the group).

> Lagoinha

On this first portion, the access to the beach by 4×4 is blocked by a big fresh water arm. We will leave without the 4×4 which will wait for us directly, in Lagoinha located at 30 km of navigation of the starting point.  If we choose not to make this stage, for various reasons, we will then drive directly by 4×4 to Lagoinha. Departure of the Downwind on the big beach in direction of Mundau. From 30 to 60 km for this stage (estimated km in straight line is for example from 45 to 75 km of kite)

> Flecheiras

Lunch on the way to Flecheiras.

> Mundau

Overnight stay in Mundau.

Some say that in the early 17th century, a Portuguese princess went to what was then still a colony of Portugal . She disembarked by a river and went upstream to the small indigenous village of Trairi where she left a Madonna

Day 2 – stage 2

MUNDAU > ICARAÏ

Wide beach all along, where the 4×4 assistance rolls. Flat or agitated water depending on the tide. 30 km of kite to Icarai.

Icarai de Amontada, more commonly called Icaraizinho, is a small fishing village in the middle of sand dunes, palm groves and coconut groves. Icaraizinho has a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

Lunch at the “Cabana do kite”.

Afternoon of relaxation or navigation on the spot of Icarai.

At low tide, the sea is not too rough, and the spot is more freeride, while at high tide it is more bump & jump.  It is also at high tide that you will find the best conditions to practice the wave.

The wave spot is located on the windward side of the bay, about 300 meters from the shore. It is a small reef wave that rarely exceeds one meter fifty, but will allow you to send good surfs and big jumps. The best period for waves is from mid-November to the end of January.

Icarai de Amontada called Icaraizinho is a fishing village surrounded by palm and coconut groves. Everything is calm except the wind which blows here up to 25 knots every day. The spot is still not very frequented and the vast expanses of sand make it possible to be alone in the world.

Day 3 – stage 3

ICARAÏ > ILHA DO GUAJIRU

We continue to kite along the coast with lots of flat water or small waves. We pass by small fishing villages and beautiful white sand beaches lined with coconut trees. Here, time stands still.

The comfortable atmosphere, the tasting of freshly grilled fish and caipirinhas will make you want to stay here forever. Navigation to Almofala for 30 km. Depending on the water level we can go directly to Almofala.

Lunch in Almofala. Navigation for 15 km to Ilha de Guariju

This is a large lagoon protected from the ocean by a huge tongue of sand several kilometers long, but still subject to the tides. So don’t be surprised if you can’t kite at low tide. Although it is a lagoon, the place is not as flat as one might imagine. The strong wind, the large size of the lagoon and the tidal phenomena make the water quite choppy.

Concerning the wind, no worries, it blows at 100% in the high season (September – December) with a side-on shore orientation.

Ilha do Guajiru is a tiny place that is only a street and a dozen pousadas installed in front of the lagoon. Your room will be 20 meters from the beach to rig your kitesurfing equipment.

Most of the natural vegetation in Guajiru is still intact. In the sand dunes behind the village, there are hardly any plants. Cows and donkeys roam freely and the wind blows hard on the steep dunes. In the middle of Guajiru, there is a stream coming from the dunes.

Day 4 – stage 4

Ilha de Guajiru > Jericoacoara

30 km

Breakfast, briefing… If the tide is high, we leave directly from the hotel. If it is low, we drive a few kilometers before getting into the water. Downwind towards Préa and Jérico.  The wind will be the strongest of the kitetrip. Lunch stop just before Préa.

Another 15 km and stop before Jerico, to avoid the downwind. It is important to arrive in Jeri early because the entrance to the city is controlled. Sand streets, stores, and sunset on the dune with a Caipi. The night activities in Jeri are numerous and very tempting! Of course, you decide your fate…but the next day we kite.

If you like seaside towns with charm still intact and don’t mind an hour’s drive on bumpy roads to get to your destination, you’ll feel like you’re in paradise.

Kitesurfing, windsurfing, capoeira, and, of course, long hours of lounging on the beach are among the favorite activities of vacationers.

Day 5 – stage 5

JERICOACOARA > CAMOCIN

40 km

The first part of this stage brings us to Tatajuba for lunch. We ride on the beach and cross a fresh water inlet. The 4×4 assistance drives through the dunes to arrive in Tatajuba for a fun stop! Lunch a little further in a fisherman’s hut. From there, we will have 25 km of navigation to reach the ferry of Camocim.

Last night in Camocin, a fisherman village in a very nice Pousada.

Camocim is a municipality that covers more than 1000 km² and its population is estimated at 60,000 inhabitants.

It is a pleasant town where you can celebrate the end of your downwind trip at the water’s edge facing the sunset, with a capi in hand.
